Members of the house staff are entitled to 20 days of paid time off (PTO) each contract year. These 20 days must be used during the period covered by the contract and may not be carried into subsequent years.

Note: All requests for leave, other than disability, are reviewed by the Department Chairman on a case-by-case basis. All time away from formal graduate medical education, other than allotted PTO, may lead to a shortfall in the time needed to complete the requirements of both the residency program and the corresponding certifying Board. Northwell Health Libraries

Immediate access to up-to-date patient care information is essential for informed clinical and management decision-making. Qualified health science librarians in our libraries, aided by computer technology, can provide a broader range of information and locate needed information more quickly than other hospital employees or medical professionals doing the research on their own.

A Northwell Health ID is required to use the Daniel Carroll Payson Medical Library (DCPML). Certain services are offered only to North Shore University Hospital, Glen Cove, the Stern Family Center for Rehabilitation, Northwell Health, and Feinstein Institute for Medical Research registered users. WebCat, the DCPML’s online catalog, lists all holdings and may be accessed on-site at Northwell Health Libraries. For more info, click here.

There are also library services available at LIJ Medical Center available to all employees of LIJ Medical Center, attending physicians on staff, students participating in current clinical rotations, and authorized volunteers are eligible for library privileges. The library is open to the public for use of on-site collections and access to consumer health online and print resources including authoritative consumer health web sites. For more info, click here. Staten Island University and Lenox Hill Hospitals also have libraries.
